We understand that you may have some questions prior to making an appointment. Please do not hesitate to call our reception staff for any additional information that you might require.

Do I need a referral to see a doctor at Queensland Physical Medicine?
No, as qualified GP’s our doctors do not require a referral.

Can I get a medicare rebate?
Yes, patients are entitled to a medicare rebate for seeing our doctors. This will cover part of the total cost of your consultation.

How long will I need treatment?
Initial appointments last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the doctor and the complexity of the presentation.

Every patient’s pain is different and so is their treatment course. In general, the longer that you’ve had your pain and the more widespread that it is, then the longer that you will need to get on top of it. You can help speed this up with attention to the factors that our doctors identify as predisposing to your pain.

Does this treatment work instead of physiotherapy or chiropractic treatments?
Our doctors see these other treatments as having a very useful place in managing musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. Musculoskeletal medicine really comes into its own when the cause of pain is uncertain, when these simpler modalities are not achieving their usual results and/or when patients need results quickly. Our doctors frequently work with your established physiotherapist during the rehabilitation phase of treatment.

What is the difference between Musculoskeletal Medicine and physiotherapy, chiropracty and osteopathy?
Musculoskeletal medicine doctors are medical pain generalists – bringing the broadest range of knowledge and skills to difficult pain problems. Whilst there is some overlapping of physical skills, only musculoskeletal medicine can offer their potent combination with injections, medications and pain counselling. Importantly, only doctors are trained to exclude pathologic causes of pain such as tumour, autoimmune conditions and infection.

Workcover related claims?
Queensland Physical Medicine will treat patients who are injured at work and are covered by Workcover claims. These patients are required to pay our account up front but may receive a full rebate from Workcover for eligible injuries.
